The man was in a world of his own when he was throwing the bread to the gulls. There is something mesmerising about a flock of birds feeding on sainsbury’s basic bread.

Notting Hill Carnival 2010 monday daytime

Not my first post on the Carnival, my previous approach was to examine the melancholy after the party with high speed black and white film late in the evening. This time I took it from a different perspective. The easy afternoons of the late summer with the tiniest scent of early autumn in the air sets a perfect scene for a series of street candid portraits which challenge the neighboring September blues.

Enough BS, here are the shots

A rather eccentricly dressed man grabs a random by passing grinding train and moves his pelvic region with enthusiasm. The man in red does not seem to notice that it is a man behind and continues dancing until he finally discovers when everyone has their camera phones point at them.

To quote the World Naked Bike Ride website the object of the ride is:

A peaceful, imaginative and fun protest against oil dependency and car culture. A celebration of the bicycle and also a celebration of the power and individuality of the human body. A symbol of the vulnerability of the cyclist in traffic.

Protesters at Gay Pride London 2009

During Gay Pride on regent street, two different groups were protesting against homosexuality. The first one were a company of 6 or 7 people from the British National Front. The far right fascist group protesting to outlaw homosexuality. One of the pickets read this:

“WARNING Natural love-ities you must unite and fight against the pornites bred fay natsexphobites who spread the aids that threatens to exterminate humanity with its hideous blight and you best shun such a party which supports the lesb-fays thru its prime minister’s wife which does fathom how many of the party’s dicks are stuck in the shit”

I have still yet to work out what it actually means.

On the other side of the road, there were the religious protesters. This group gained more attention since they were preaching on a PA; bible in one hand, picket sign on the other. In the gay pride party atmosphere, the surrounding crowd drowned the protesters by singing “we are family”. This was followed by mocking the preachers with the Hitler salute.

Gay Pride London, 2009

Pride day in London, this is the first year that I’ve actually been able to make it to this event. Pride or Gay pride, London parade is held by the local LGBT organisations. The the fancy (ridiculous ) dresses are one of the main highlights of the parade. The fashion line-up this year includes the pink fairies, wabbits, speedos, corsets, latex, leather, chains, hot pants, nuns with guns, kings and queens, body paint, carnival feather things and nothing at all.

Paraders get ready on baker street where many of them will start dressing up, and posing for photos. The parade proceeded onto oxford street and into regent street, down to Trafalgar square past Piccadilly circus. A stage is setup in travalger square where the party begins, occasionally interrupted by political party speeches by MPs.

Queen’s Tower (London) -06/09

Had the opportunity to hike up the queens tower a few weeks back. It is surprising how much of London one can view just by going up 300 or so steps. The structure is completely purposeless, apart from making a lot of noise on special occasions throughout the year, it serves as a meeting place for year photos and “egg-landing glider design” competitions. The tower is about 90 meters high, with a copper dome the viewing gallery is about 80 meters high. Observers can see london in all four directions for miles and miles. The tower is closed off to the public, there are rumours that people have jumped off the tower due to exam pressure, the lack of females and the lack of real men in Imperial College. I can personally testify the second reason, and the situation is absolutely dire, boys (plural) around a female (singular), like flies around s**t.
